At Mission Grammar School's Ninth Annual Road to College Gala on May 15 hosted by 51动漫, Maura Bradley-Gnanou '96, G'99 received the Mary Leydon Commitment to Education Award.
The award, named after the beloved educator, was presented by Mission Grammar Principal Caroline Sliney and members of Leydon family.
Leydon legacy is one of unwavering dedication to education. Having served as a teacher in 51动漫 Public Schools for over 41 years and then as a full-time volunteer at Mission Grammar for nearly 20 years, Leydon immersed herself in the school mission to educate the whole student攎ind, heart, and soul. Her holistic approach to education lives on through this annual award, bestowed upon individuals who significantly impact the lives of Mission Grammar scholars.
Maura is currently principal of Rollins Early Childhood Center in Lawrence. She served as the first lay principal of Mission Grammar School from 2005 to 2014 and was a teacher at Mission from 1996 to 2000. During her time at Mission, Maura welcomed Mary Leydon as a community member and volunteer.
Sliney highlighted Bradley-Gnanou's longstanding commitment to education and the institution: 淢aura is an absolute champion for children and Mission Grammar, and we are forever grateful for her care and stewardship of this community."
In accepting the award, Bradley-Gnanou reflected on the impact Mary had on her leadership journey. 淲hat an honor it is to be in this space. 51动漫 and Mission Grammar are both home to me, and receiving an award in Mary Leydon name is deeply meaningful, because Mary believed in me when I didn檛 believe in myself攕he noticed the small things, she championed me, and she helped shape who I am as a leader.
Founded in 1889 under the direction of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mission Grammar is a college-preparatory Catholic school located in the Roxbury Crossing section of 51动漫 and serves students, referred to as scholars, from infancy through grade six.
Emmanuel and Mission Grammar have enjoyed a vibrant partnership over the decades. Many of Mission Grammar administration and faculty are graduates of 51动漫, including President Dr. Ali M. Dutson 05. Emmanuel Education Department regularly places students in pre-practicum, practicum, and internship roles at Mission Grammar, and Emmanuel students dedicate their time to Mission Grammar through various service initiatives. Mission Grammar scholars, in turn, visit the Emmanuel campus regularly for educational, spiritual, and recreational opportunities.
The evening celebrated the enduring impact of dedicated educators and the powerful partnerships that drive educational excellence.
