For Gabriel Gabe Eduarte 26, 51 is more than just a place to earn a degreeit where he discovered his confidence, enhanced his faith, and forged lifelong connections.

As a Yawkey Scholarship recipient, Gabe, a double major in Economics and Finance, has embraced every opportunity to grow academically and personally, and he credits the College supportive environment for shaping him into the person he is today.

A standout both in the classroom and on the field, Gabe is a midfielder on Emmanuel men soccer team. In November, he was named to the . Being part of the team has been one of the highlights of his college experience, teaching him the value of teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. "Soccer has been a huge part of my journey at Emmanuel," he shared. "It not just about the gameit about building relationships and representing something bigger than myself."

Gabe also carves out time to work in Student Financial Services (SFS) and serve as a resident assistant. Both roles have deepened his connection to the Emmanuel community and allowed him to grow as a leader. "These experiences have helped me build relationships across campus and develop skills Ill carry with me for the rest of my life," he said.

The Transformative Power of the Yawkey Scholarship

The Yawkey Scholarship, which provides high-achieving students with financial assistance in recognition of their outstanding participation in the Jean R. Yawkey Center for Community Leadership, has played a pivotal role in Gabe success. 

"The scholarship has been life changing. It given me the freedom to fully experience everything Emmanuel has to offer, from expanding my connection to God to competing on the field to thriving in the classroom, he said. "To be recognized as a recipient of such a prestigious scholarship really boosted my confidence and allowed me to seek more opportunitieswhether it was becoming a resident assistant, pursuing job opportunities, or internships."

The scholarship has been life changing. It given me the freedom to fully experience everything Emmanuel has to offer, from expanding my connection to God to competing on the field to thriving in the classroom.

Mentorship from Day One

Gabe credits much of his success to the support of his mentors at Emmanuel, particularly Tracey Clingingsmith, the Assistant Vice President of Advancement. "Tracey has been a huge mentor. I met her during my freshman move-in, and she made a great first impression. She was so welcoming and supportive, especially since I was coming from so far away," the Minnesota native said.

Over time, their relationship has grown into a source of guidance and encouragement. "I go to her for advice, internship opportunities, or even just to catch up," Gabe explained. "She been such a positive influence and someone I know I can always rely on. For example, I once mentioned my interest in sustainability, and she immediately connected me with people in that field. She been such a great resource."

Gabe shared how his time at Emmanuel has prepared him for the future, instilling values of hard work, resilience, and service to others. "This college has shaped who I am," he said. "It more than just the educationit the experiences, the relationships, and the lessons Ill carry with me for the rest of my life."
